i found this recent startling news:
"Steve Irwin - Crocodile Hunter - Dead
Steve Irwin, the world renowned Crocodile Hunter, star of TV and advocate for the preservation of Australian animals, died Monday, Septemeber 4, 2006 during a diving expedition at the age of 44. He leaves behind a lovely daughter, Bindi Sue (8), his son Bob (2), and his wife Terri. The cause of death has been reported as a "stingray strike to the chest" while Irwin was filming a documentary. A rescue helicopter was too late, as Steve Irwin was dead before they reached him. Known and loved for his exuberant teaching methods on his shows for Animal Planet, and for his devotion to the Australian Zoo, Steve Irwin's death will be felt throughout the world. Personally, I really liked the bloke, though some of his methods have been controversial. His dedication and energy, his sense of humor, and his ability to laugh at himself made him a natural teacher. His Animal Planet shows taught millions about the plight of the animals, showing us worlds we never new existed, and helped us to see the earth with renewed enthusiasm.Rest in peace, Steve. My best wishes to your friends and your family. The earth is poorer for your passing. "
